i have a 55 gal tank that i like to call my American tank because it has way differnt fish.

i have a pair of Oscars at least i hope there a pair 6''
3 plecos 1 is 7" the others are 8 to 9 "
2 gold fish 1 is 6 to 7" the other is about 9"
a 3" snail
2 fish from my creek 3.5"
im saving up for a bigger tank

in my other tank (10 gal) i have 4 guppied and 2 ghost shrimp

any suggestions or ppl just bored or what ever

i dont wanna sound rude but i wanna tell you now that you are gonna have a problem with your tank an oscar needs atleast 55 gallons to its self i know this for a fact i had 2 6" oscars and to plecos one 5 inch and the other 8-9inches and i had a huge ammonia problem for a long time they never died but they did not do to much at all other than eat i could not get the ammonia down even with 30% daily water changes and a gravel vac for every change so you might wanna upgrad or get rid of some fish man because i dont want anyone to have any of the problems i had its nothing but a headache dont forget both of those oscars are going to get 12+ inches and need their own territories but good luck man enjoy them

Lets keep all replys about the members tanks and keep the debate about wether or not the stocking is correct or any other problems you have with a members tank to Private Message. This is supposed to be a place to showcase your work so lets not bash other members for their skills or personal ideas of whats right on their member page.

H3D, I don't see how abusing this member is going to help anything. Now it obvoiusly is OS, but maybe he's new to fish keeping. OR maybe he's about to move them all into a larger tank like he said he would. It's comments like that turn new ***********s away from this board.

your 55 gallon tank is extremely over stocked. fish maintained in tanks which are too small or in conditions which are too crowded, develop severe stress syndrome. these fish do not exhibit proper color, do not develop proper fin form, do not exhibit proper metabolic development, do not exhibit normal behaviour, do not develop proper musculature, do not develop properly functioning organ systems and as a result, slowly lose their inherant resistance to disease. this results in a significantly shortened lifespan and along the way, lots of diseases for which the poorly conditioned fish is a good target.

a pair of mature oscars grow to 13-14 inches and should be maintained in a 120.

if you've got common plecostomus, they grow to a foot and three of them will require every bit of 120 gallons at maturity. at 7-9 inches right now, they're crowded in your 55.

common goldfish grow to over a foot and are cold water fish. they should never be maintained with tropical fish. their metabolism is such that they exhaust a high waste load and as such, they require very large tanks. three of them at your size need at least 75 gallons. tropical fish prefer temperatures of 78°F while common GF do best at 65°F.

if you move the goldfish into a properly sized tank and maintain them at the lower temperature required to long term health, they can live for 30 or more years.

dang.... lots of negativity in this thread! what ever happened to just helping people? please, let's keep it civil.

anyway, as they have all said before, you are very overstocked. it's only exaserbated by the fact that you have a native fish in your tank, and retuning it to your local stream after being in that overstocked tank where i'm sure disease is rampant, may have a negative effect on the population of your local creek.

return the oscars and the plecos, and maybe keep one of the goldfish and return the others. try to identify your "creek fish"
