Hey guys!

I've seen recently that my pleco has got some frayed fins and this is getting me a little bit worried... Is it possible that the cause of this problem is my Texas Cichlid, who is somekind of really mean and maybe agress him (even if i never say any signs of agressivity between these two) or is it more like somekind of bacterial fin rot? Is there anything that I can do to help my pleco? thanks a lot

about 2 days ago my pleco was showing the same signs...within another day he was gone...i would suggest taking him out of the tank...i don't think there is anything else that would make his fins 'rot' away...i have heard of many people with plecos mixed with their cichlids, however i have had no luck...

I disargee yoru pleco is prbably wedging himself in between rocks or somthing and tearing his fins mine do it all the time.

Frayed or ragged fins can be indicative of many things.
Bad water quality, disease/infection, aggression or a clumsy fish around inappropriate decor (e.g. sharp/rough rocks/driftwood etc...)
My advice would be to check water parameters and correct if necessary, remove any questionable decor from the Plecos habitat, separate fish with a divider and see if the Plecos finnage clears up.
If the damage to fins is moderate to severe I would recommend treating with Mela & Pimafix, if there any signs of secondary infection then I would suggest actual meds.

You're welcome.
