About three months ago i came home to one of my glow light tetras twitching at the bottom of my tank (on the substrate). It had lost all color. This fish had had a small white growth above one of its eyes for at least six months before that, however the growth never got larger, the fish acted normal, and had normal color that whole time.
I euthenized that tetra, and of course payed careful attention to the rest of my fish's well being for some time.
About a week ago I noticed another of my tetra's color fading. It continued to fade, and occasionally the fish would seem to isolate and hide (none of my other tetra do this). Other times it would school and act normal. Today when I came home from work, it was laying on the substrate, twitching. My wife says she noticed it swimming "like it was drunk" the day before. I've euthenized it already. This fish never had any time of tumor or growth.
What's going on? Does this sound like anything you have heard of before? How should i treat my tank, if I should treat it at all. All my other fish seem healthy, but i'm scared it will continue happening!
