I've heard on here that its good to add for treatments (as opposed to antibiotics) with an increase in temperature. But you have to be careful you don't have fish/shrimp that migth be intolerant of the salt. A lot of people are against using it for any other reason (ie. adding for mollies is unnecessary).

Fungus is usually a secondary infection brought about by a weakened immune system due to other diseases or bad water quality. Bad water quality is most often the cause, diseases second.
IMO the best treatment for fungus is to start with fresh water and lots of it. Could you post your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH readings, please?
Do 50% water changes every day and see if that helps. If it does not, then there may be another cause for the fungus.
Salt really isn't necessary for treating fungus.

Although I have had success with it in treating a tiny cottony tuft on my betta's fin--problem disappeared overnight. I used sea salt mixed with a very large water change.
