I just got some Driftwood with a setup and i never had drifrwood before.
What do i do???? How do i clean it??? I scraped some old wood of the surface and i dont know if its ready to go in the tank? I washed it a few times, the guy had not used it for a couple of months. can someone tell me all the steps on how to clean it before i put it in the tank???

Thanks.

If somebody already had it in a tank then most of the tannins are probaly out. Hwever I would suggest boiling it for 20-60 minutes(depending on how long it take to soak it) To soak it and kill any bacteria.
Good Luck

What is tennins??

a misspelling. tannins are what give the tea coloration to your water. wood, leaves...water leaches it out. i am sure there is a more techincal explanation out there. anyway, if you ever hear of blackwater extract, it is the same basic idea. some fish originate in blackwater areas, or waters full of dissolved tannins. it can color your water anywhere from a slight yellow cast to quite brown. it may also have a slight acidifying effect (except mine since the water is so freaking hard). j

some people like their water crystal clear, and some prefer the tannin water. it is harmless to fish and, at times, beneficial.

If it's too big to boil you could put it in the oven at 215 deg. until just before you see smoke.

You could put it in the tub with super hot water or run a hot shower on it. Its probably fine to add to the tank if its been in a tank before.
