Hello,
I would be interested in hearing anybody's experience in adding an extra layer of mechanical filtration in a canister filter, especially an Eheim 2028 or similar. My substrate is EcoComplete so there is frequently a fine haze of particulates floating around that is annoying. The filter has the coarse blue pad and the white fine filter pad already. I'm thinking of adding another layer of ? floss, ?micron filter pad, ?whatever -- probably at the top of the cannister. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try adding a FilterMaxIII to the intake as a prefilter. It will catch the coarse stuff and can be rinsed weekly without having to open the canister. The exlusion of the coarse debris will give you longer between openings. Likely only the final fine pad is going to trap the smaller haze-creating particles, but you have the right idea in protecting that final filter with stepwise filtration earlier.

The FilterMaxI is much finer porosity than the III, but it will likely need rinsing more than once a week.

The FilterMax units are both more effective and easier to service tha the Eheim prefilters.
