How long has your tank been set up?
It sounds like you have the good ol brown Cyano growing. If the tank is fairly new, it is a stage that it will go through. If you keep your alk and calcium, it will help keep the stuff from growing to much. If it gets way out of hand there is a product that will get rid of it which is called Chemi-clean. This stuff is reef safe and works well.

What do you mean by the alk and calcium? My tank has been up about a year and I just recently started adding some Kent Marine Liquid Reactor (supposed to help coraline algea grow on lr) and took the carbon out of my filter. I recently started getting some brown algea on the tank, subsrate, and lr. I don't add that much just a little every few days. Just wondering if its the no-carbon filter or the chems....

OOPS :D
I guess I left out the word "up" Keep your alk and calcium levels up.
Are you testing your calcium level in the tank and if so, what is it?
What are the rest of the test readings and what do you have for a substrate?
