I have 1 male and 2 female guppies in my 10 gallon. They have a couple of female fry that are in the 29 gallon. The fry are about an inch. I can tell that they will probably be very nice guppies -great coloration. Most of their fry from when they lived in the 29 gallon were eaten. Guppies were some of my first fish, I am trying to phase them out of my fishkeeping. I have put the remaining 3 in the 10 gallon.
I am going to contact the lfs that I often purchase from. I have read that sometimes fish stores will take fry. I don't know if they will.
If they will take fry, I will definitely take them the fry out of the 29 gallon, and I am really thinking about taking them my 2 adult females also (these are probably about 9 months old)
I am extremely fond of the male. I have had him since he was a fry. I am usually not this sentimental about fish, but I REALLY like this male. He is a georgeous male fantail whose fin growth is truly spectacular. I have never seen a male that even compares at fish stores. Of course, I'm probably kind of biased.
Question: If I take the fry and the 2 adult females to the lfs, will the male be unhappy? I have read lots of mixed opinions about male guppies. If I got another male guppy would that help?
I am just really sick of the whole fry being born then eaten and I have felt really bad because a lot of the fry end up being vacuumed up in gravel cleanings (especially the ones born in the 29 gallon -Not intentionally)
Has anyone kept a male guppy without females?
Thank you for any help.
