I am about to make an order from Greg Watson because i have a notorious shortage of Nitrate in my planted tank and suspect a potassium deficiency aswell.
Now i saw there is a PMDD Premix available. It seems to contain KNO3, K2SO4, MgSO4 and the traces via CSM+B.

I have plenty of Phosphate in my tap and a big bottle of flourish.

Question is - should i just get the PMDD Pre mix or buy some KNO3 seperate ? The fish load in the tank is very light so based on the fertilizer sticky i assume i'd get away with KNO3 for K only.

And another Q - while i am ordering - whats better to supplement Ca for snails - calcium chloride or calcium nitrate ?

I would rather add separately, but I still haven't gotten my dosing figured out, so maybe I am not the best for giving advice. I think I have seen people here recommend separate dosing of macros and micros because they can sometimes precipitate out of solution, so wouldn't that be a problem with the PMDD mix? If you think you have a K deficiency then KNO3 will probably not be enough. Your target concentration of K is higher than that of NO3 and any given amount of KNO3 will raise the ppm of K less than that of NO3.

Hi hanny,

I asked greg watson him self the exact same question and his reply was the same as those mentioned here, for the same reasons too, dosage control.

Thanks for your replies. Just thought i make sure - after all the product is offered so i thought there might be a reason for this.

I am getting KNO3 and all my other stuff and skip the CSM because i have tons of flourish.
