cant resist any longer *twitch*, am going to buy a SeaClear 50 gallon (36x15x20) tank setup this week and get rid of this biorb once for all!

1) I plan to have 3 aquaclear 50 filters, for those who have seen the seaclear tank in person, is there a place in the back where you can hang those filters?

2) Do the new seaclear tanks still bow out under water pressure, i saw a couple reviews saying once the tall tanks are filled with water they all bow out horizontally due to thin acrylic. But those were all posted before 2000, think seaclear has since increased the thickness to correct the problem?

3) here's my setup, see any problems?

a) SeaClear 50 gallon
b) big als stingray stand
c) 3X AquaClear 50
d) Marineland AirMaster 3000 Air Pump
e) Marineland bubble wand kit ( 2x bubble wand and connecting accessories )
f) 2x 100Watt vis thermal stealth heater
g) Estes bits of walnut gravel
h) 10x silk plants 18-22" tall (along the background wall covering heater/filter) & various small foreground silk plants
i) penn plax corner shelf kit & a couple small decor

4) livestock - yes i know will be overstocked but i dont mind doing daily water changes (thanks to biorb) and have 3 filters running.

a) guppies (all male) x10
b) endlers (all male) x6
c) cardenal tetra x12
d) whtecloud x4
e) golden whitecloud x4
f) panda cory x 6
g) oto x 6
h) pygmy cory x 6
i) cherry red shrimp x10

?) upside down fish thingy (is this ok? too big?) x1 or 2
?) zebra danio ( i currently have 6, are they ok with guppies? i read they will nip guppies to death? )

all the equipments will arrive by the end of next week, then i will do a fishless cycle using the existing gravel in the biorb.

thanks!

I just want to remind you that doing daily waterchanges on a 50 gallon vs 8 gallons is a big difference. The guppies might breed like crazy but I am not too familiar with all the fish you listed and can't give an opinion on your stocking choice. High fishloads do sometimes contribute to algae problems in addition to excess labor.

If you want guppies please don't attempt 10 males together. Chances are they wont do well! Guppies, as with most live bearers, should be kept in a 2 to 1, female male ratio!!

hey thanks for all the response!

re: why acrylic not glass

1) i live in a high rise condo, carrying/having a 50 gallon glass is not an option.

2) seaclear tanks are the ONLY tank with a design i like. crystal clear viewing from all sides with rounded clear corners and see through top(front part of the top). So it's almost completely transparant as if the tank is not even there.

3) no leak issue with glass

4) i dont have any cats or kids, from past experience with the biorb acrylic is not that bad in term of scratching. my biorb still looks like new without any scratch. it's been about 5 months now.

5) why so much hate for acrylic?

I would suggest that you not buy 3 Aquaclear filters. You would do better with larger versions of their filters. I would use 2 AC-110's instead.

the reason i went with 3 smaller instead of 2 stronger filter is concern that the stronger filter may suck in the smaller fish and shrimp, also wouldnt 3 filters give better water circulation and movement? just curious, if 2 stronger filter is beter than 3 weaker ones for my setup, then i will definitly switch

why? the guppy breeders separate the sexes. why is having 10 male together bad? only reason for the 2 to 1 ratio is if you mix the male and females so you dont end up with like 5 males and 2 females(and stress the females to death), but if i am housing only 10 male fancy guppies why is this bad???

My argument for the larger filters is based mainy on the larger size of the media baskets. You can always turn the flow rate down and still benefit from the increased surface area for benecial bacteria to grow.

As an example, my 10 gallon tank has an old Aquatech 30-60 that has a 300gal/hr flow rate. Way too much for that small tank, but when I turn down the flow rate, I get the advantage of the larger filter media and less frequent filter maintenance than I did when I had a Penguin MINI on there.

I think people don't like acrylic because it can more easily be scratched and is expensive. However, I do like the benefits of how good they look.

Just spent 3 hrs and bought everything I needed from the online stores, total cost was way higher than expected ($610). Now that's out of the way, i can focus on the fish list, here's the revised version. Of course i will be adding fish gradually as i find them in the store/online after cycle is done:

a) guppies (all male) x8
b) endlers (all male) x4
c) cardenal tetra x10
d) whtecloud x4
e) golden whitecloud x4
f) panda cory x 6
g) golden harlequin rasboras x4
h) high fin platy x1
i) Topsail Platy x1
j) glofish (zebra danio) x6
k) cherry red shrimp x10

still have some questions

1) what's wrong with having all male guppies together?
2) how likely are the zebra danio to nip guppies' fin? I have 6 zebradanio currently
3) what are some other bottom dwellers that's similar to panda cory i can keep in the tank

thanks.
