Ok guys, I am a college student with a love for fish. I have had freshwater aquariums for years. I curently have a 10 gallon tank freshwater one in my dorm room now. I am wondering if it would be possible to change it over to a saltwater tank and if so how much would it cost. I would like to have some coral and some live rock. I do go home over the summer so would it be worth my time to set one up or should I just stay with my freshwater. I love the wide variety of fish that I can get for the saltwater tank. I really want to do this but I understand that I might not be able to do it untill next school year. Thanks in advance.

You won't have many fish that you can put in a 10. IMO, you'd be limited to one or two small gobies, and going with just inverts and rock would be better.

Cost-wise--depends. Upgrading the lighting, add rock, etc, probably you'll need to spend around $100-150 at least. The tank won't establish and mature as well if it's torn down once a year, so that's also a consideration. Small tanks are harder to stabilize, so it will need more attention than a larger tank, and be harder to care for than a larger SW setup as well.
