I purchased some "mondo grass" from the LFS today and came home to find out that it is a marsh or bog plant and will only survive submerged for a short period. Some information seems to indicate this could survive for quite a long period of time fully submerged but will eventually need to be emersed for a time in order to recover. Apongeton apparently likes to be removed and rested for a couple of months, emersed, before being submerged again.
Our apongeton is doing absolutely beautifully. I couldn't ask for a more lush and attractive plant really. I would have bought another but the LFS that sells them is slightly crooked IMO (sold us disease along with a fish, disease was free though... losing half our stock wasn't.)
Our tank is very clean and prosperous and I wonder if I might just remove the Mondo if it starts to shed and die, emersing it in some tank water..
So on to questions.. How much water does the Mondo need to be emersed in? How long should I emerse it before submerging again? I can't find particular information on google really, only guesses and information about similar species.
I have grown to trust and appreciate these forums so I would like to hear it from those I trust rather than google a bit more and find contradictory questionable info!
Any info on the Apongeton would be nice as well. If anyone knows approximately how long it tends to grow submerged before needing to rest that would be great.
