Hey you guys, I have a couple questions. First of all, I am planning on adding some more fish to my 10 gallon tank. Right now, I have a Harlequin Rasbora, two Glowlight Tetras, and two Glass Bloodfins. What other species can go with what i have now?

And the bigger question for me is what (other than water changes and scrubbing) will get rid of my green algae all over my plants and glass. Are there any fish that I can put in my tank, or are there any other remidies or chemicals for this? I heard peopole talk about using salt, but is that safe for my plants?

Thanks

Hi, and welcome to AC!

To get rid of algae, you might want to reduce the ligthing in your tank. If it's near a window and the sun shines over it, the problem is worse. Real plants are helpful to, since they will compete the algae for food. Make sure you keep the water clean by making pertial water changes and cleaning your subtrate with a gravel vaccum. In your case, a 30% water change each week should be enough.

I'm sorry to tell you that your tank should not be holdiong anymore fish. If you want more fish, you'd need a bigger tank, maybe a 20 gl. They are still small in size but yet can hold more fish for you.

You might be tempted or adviced to get a pleco to help with the algae problem, but those fish grow quite large. There are other smaller fish that can help, such as otocinclus but they are also quite delicate and normally die too quickly. So, maybe the best solution would be to add an snail. Wait here for some more adviece about snails.

Well, I'm a space freak. Many people say I keep my tanks pretty empty, but I don't like to see a tank full. Maybe you can hear some more opinions first.

A farowella? In a 10g? Can I have some of what you're smoking?

BlueDevil -- all of the fish you already have are schooling fish that really need to be in groups of 6 or more -- three at the very minimum. I wouldn't add any more species at all, but instead add to what you already have. If at all, add 1 glolite, 1 glass and 2 rasboras.
