Angels in a 50?

I am currently in the process of fishless cycling my new 50g. I'm running a penguin bio-wheel 350. When the time comes to add my fish I am really leaning towards a few angels. My problem is I have been getting conflicting opinions on how many angels I should add. I had originally planned on only 2 but there have been people telling me 4 or 5? This seems like too many. Also what others will do well with angels? Thanks for any input!!!
 
Well, if you want 2, then go for 2 :)
4 or 5 might be okay.. but if there was an aggression problem, then it wouldnt be a fun situation for you or your fish.
 
I was told that the aggression is more of a problem when a pair is spawning, or when there are less than 6 in a group.
 
I have four in my 55, and they all swim together and are all doing fine. I might just be lucky. Also they are all still small
 
I once had 3 in a 55, but they weren't all full grown. I had no problems with them though. I've got two in my 29 right now. One is an adult and the other is a juvenile. Both are greedy little *******s.
 
lol.. I had three in a 90 gallon, they were ALL greedy :D . I did think it was the perfect amount. However, I DID also have other fish in there..... Bitsy - are you wanting any other fish?
 
the suggestion to get four or five, might spring from the fact that Angels are hard (some say imposible) to sex until mature. By purchasing 4 or 5 you increase the chance that a pair will form. For that size tank, I would buy 7 or eight of the best looking small angels I could find. Grow them to adulthood. Keep two pairs, and exchange/sell/give away the extras (there will always be a demand for large healthy angel fish)
 
I have 8 young angels in my 55 they are doing fine..I am hoping for a pair..either way as they get older I will move some of the angels to a 40 I am setting up..there is plenty of time..they are young and I monitor the water weekly and do waterchanges atleast weekly

the general rule of thumb for angels is 1 per 10 gallons..

mooman is correct..get 6-8 if you want a pair..your tank can handle 5 easily.
 
We started with 6 angels in our 56gal. but two made it in the end. They all picked on each other until there were just two surviving. Now they are bigger, and beautiful and happy, just the two of them. So if you wanna take that chance of them beating each other of and having a "survival of the fittest", but I didnt like seeing them having to end up like that. We now have learned more about them, and have heard a lot and read a lot that they do work good in pairs.
So that's our experience.... BTW, their pics are in my avatar, so cute :p:
 
The pair in my avatar trashed another angel when they became mature. Months later the female died from what I believe was a bacterial infection. I put the previously beaten one back in and within a day they were cleaning a leaf together. No eggs yet but they're peaceful.

Thus I agree with the others that sexually mature angels don't play well with other angels.
