I have been soaking a piece of bogwood for 2 months and it is still leaching tannins into the water. I have read that boiling can speed up this process. If so how long would I Ibe likely to have to boil it for? It is a fairly large piece that I really like and I have invested so much time into it that I dont want to give up and throw it away.

Thanks.

Tannins will leach over time, even with boiling you will not be able to take out everything.

Boil the wood for 15 minutes, drain the water, refill and repeat for at least 4-5 times.

Remember after the boiling process is complete, the wood should be safe in the aquarium, the little amount of tannins are not going to do anything adverse. If you are worried (I mean really worried) about pH shift, raise your kH.

After the wood has been boiled a few times, it will not discolor your aquarium
