Hi, I have a 55 gallon fish tank i do a 25% water change once a week. It keeps getting this rusty brown alage in it that just wont go away and it comes back rather fast. I did not buy this tank from the store i bought it from someone i know so i am wondering if they were not taking good care of it. Any infro would be great

Algae growth is normally a sign of a healthy tank. I get this specific algae in my goldfish tank and yes it does grow fast. The way I manage it rather well is to leave the back wall untouched when I scrape for algae. At first it will look rather horrid but after a few weeks the algae will actually make a nice background on the glass. What this does is give the new algae trying to rapidly grow some competition and severely hampers its growth. Combine this with a normal waterchange schedule (which I see you have) and vacuuming of the substrate. Don't overfeed and it will be something much easier to manage.

Thanks for the info I will keep that in mind! I am planning on cleaning it and replacing some of the gravel while i put my fish in my other tank for a while.
