I recently aquired an "orphaned" male betta who is now comfortably coexisting in my 10 gal. community tank. I had never given much thought to bettas but last week I stopped at the local PETCO and saw for the first time, some females. Doggone it, they are just as "splendid" (if thats the word) as the males. Their finnage is less exuberant but they still have plenty, plus color and grace. I'm enchanted. Anyone else?

I agree. I have one in my 10 gallon..Beatrix for obvious reasons. She and Bill, the male were trying to kill each other, so I had to seperate.
She is beautiful....white irridescent body that is flashes blue or green, and red fins. Very pretty girl...
I got her at Petco, and I may get some more, they had a whole tank of them.
Bill resides in the 5 gallon with some neons..he's not near as interested in chasing them as he was her.

I have a female in a 5g mini bow aquarium. She used to be in my community tank, but the food that I fed the the rest of the inhabitants did her no good. She developed swim bladder disease and I removed her and put her into her own tank. It took awhile, but she recovered.

She seems to like the solidarity. I think female bettas are just as personable as the males. They even "flare". :)

I'd get a tankful of them if I could (provided it was a "big, well planted" tank.

I have a very pretty cambodian female. I really like her a lot.
