I never feel very confident with determining stocking levels so I would like to ask everyone's opinion on this.

I am setting up a 75 gallon, heavily planted tank.

I would like to set some angel fish, some cories, and a type of tetra school.

What is everyone's opinion on a moderately stocked level of these fish?

Thanks!

1 angel, 2 corys and 70 neons!!!

Oh, c'mon! It could be cool!

Seriously now, have you looked at threadfin rainbows? Could be a nice alternate to the angels. Smaller, better temper( so I understand), you can get more of them....

I have a 75 gallon with 6 angels, 10 rummynose tetras, 10 otos, and 1 apistogramma borelli (dwarf cichlid).

So I would suggest.
6 Angles
10-14 school of tetras (depending on what kind)
6-8 cory cats

I think that is moderatly stocked.

6 Angels? That many?

Hmmm, I think that may overload the look I'm going for. I would like the fish to complement the plants but not overpower them.

What would you think of 4 Angels, 14 tetras of some kind(maybe cardinals), and 8 cories for the bottom?

Are Angels bad about eating shrimp? I would like to get some cherry shrimp for the tank if they wouldn't just be eaten up.

I would get a larger school 20+ for the tetras, the bigger the school, the better it will look.

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm going to be setting up an 80g soon and I have two vailed Koi Angels that I will be moving over to this tank. I was thinking of going with a school of cardinal tetras and diamond tetras. Check out the diamond tetras, very pretty with the cardinals like you were thinking!!

Choose your Cardinals' tank mates well because any fish whose mouth is large enough will eat them, and this includes wild discus and angelfish. Some good tank mates for your Cardinals in my opinion would be any dwarf Cichlid, domestic bred Angelfish or Discus, Hatchet fish or any small Cory catfish. You can also keep your Cardinals with any small fish from around the world that requires the same type of water parameters. Large school of Cardinal Tetras swimming from one end of the aquarium to the other end is an impressive sight.

These are also called Cardinal Tetras, you can tell the difference because the stripes go all the way to the tail. They do grow slighty bigger than your normal neon.

I thought cardinals get a little bigger than neons and do better with Angels?? I had all my neons eaten by my old Angel, but he was wild caught too. I was hoping that the "little bigger" cardinals would do better than the neons, but who knows they could be lunch too. I was also hoping that the bigger tank helps too and more plants!

I've had angels with neons and the only time there was any aggression between them was when I did a move from a 15 gallon to a 29 gallon. I believe that the stress of the move caused the angel fish to attack the neons. Otherwise, in a year of keeping them together, there were no problems.

I have also seen cardinals kept with angel fish in a beautiful planted show tank at a LFS with no issues of that kind. So I don't think it will be much of a problem.

Watcher74 have you looked into rasbora hets? A school of those would look good and I think they would last longer than cardinals or neons. JMO.
