ok so here is the story....

Right now i currently owned 2 1.5 inch long green spotted puffers for about 6 months and i feed them about half a cube of brine shrimp every day, but there beaks have grown alarmingly big, Im told to feed them live snails but my LFS does not sell them. What should i feed them to get there beaks down to a normal size. And also what ever i feed them, it must be safe for a bala shark and catfish to eat to since they are also in the tank with them. Any help is appreciated!

you need snails ASAP, i could get some and ship them out to you with you only paying for the snails and shipping, no profit for me. It's very important that this is done for i'm afraid that maybe he might very soon be to the point of starting himself to death for lack of being able to open his mouth to eat. i'm not trying to make a buck here, i'm trying to save his life. also go to walmart buy a 10 gallon tank for around $10.00, get a cheap heater and some live plants and a cheap filter (whisper has a in tanke setup for like $10 bucks or less (as a matter of fact, i have an extra one i'd sell you, i have so many filters it's insane, but i'm a bit insane too LOL) and try to breed them. it will save you money in the long run. please do something soon or he'll starve to death and that's the worst way to die for any being. PM if you want, or go to drsfostersmith.com or some place to get the heater and filter, last time i check they had a dual temp marineland heater 100 watts (good heater needs no adj, either set it for 76 deg or 82 deg) for $6.99 from $15.99 i'm placing an order in a few days if you wanted to go that route i could save you money on shipping , you pick the filter if you didn't want mine, they have great deals right now and i could send you the filter or order it with my stuff, heater and snails for a cheap rate. i'm just trying to help. please don't let little puffer starve. anything i can do for you let me know ok ???? You can also trim the GSP's incissors as well as giving the fish a better diet. Go to:

http://www.thepufferforum.org/

In the Library there is an excellent article on GSP care by Pufferpunk, and in the Hosptal forum is the technique for trimming teeth.

Brine shrimp are not a suitable diet for puffers, very little food value and no crunch but plenty of pollution from these messy eaters.

Thankyou guys verymuch for the help and links, i have read some articles and it sounds like i will set up a snail breeding tank, when you metioned walmart you made me relize that our new meijers has some snails and so does a walmart a little farther away. Now here are the second set of questions, what snails should i use, is there a difference between male/female. What kind of plants do i get, and how long before they will mate?

oh and Roan Art, it is a freshwater tank, i have hered of many people haveing succes with freshwater, salt and brackish with GSP's. And so far freshwater is working just fine, no diseases or sickly behavoir from the puffer's, they have bright colors, and white stomach's....just long teeth

Common ramshorns and common pond snails are just fine for puffers. Where did that misimformation come from? That is not from the Puffer Forum.

GSPs should be kept in BW at least, high BW at least once they are sexually mature. FW kept GSPs cannot be expected to live long healthy lives. They are not FW fish any more than Scats or Monos are FW. Anyone who tells you that they are has obviously not tried to grow them to full size or for their full lifespan.
