I am setting up a 55g tank for cichlids, I was given 2 blue malawi peacocks and yellow labs. My ? is will these fish be ok in a 55g together and if so can I put any other cichlids in with them and how many. The ones I have are young and in a 20g right now,any help and I,d be grateful.Thanx

Hi,

Being new to this game myself my advise is limited but I would not keep melonochromis johanni or melonochromis auratus with your fish (too aggressive) and make sure that you have double the number of females to males. my 2c worth ...

It would be great to know the scientific name of your "blue malawi peacocks", since sometimes cichlids that aren't peacocks at all get labelled as them, in which case you *may* have a fish that has an aggression level and adult size that you are not aware of... so its always best to find out exactly what you have.

Take some pictures and post them here and we will help you :)

As for those fish in a 55 gallon, it sounds fine (assuming what you have is really peacocks)! I would do at least a trio of each, with one male to several females, so you could probebly add a couple more of each species. A group of Pseudotropheus acei would be great in that tank, as they are a mbuna similar to the yellow labs in temperment and diet.

HTH
