Will A Mollyand And A Platty Mate? I Have A Lyretail Platy Chasing And Being Playfully Aggressive Towards A Dalmation Molly. If Not How Will These Two Types Act If They Were To Pair Off?

They are not two different specie, they are two different genus.

Xiphophorus variatus, Variable platyfish. Xiphophorus is the genus, variatus is the specie
Poecilia latipinna, Sailfin Molly. Poecilia is the genus, latipinna is the specie

Fish of the same genus can interbreed. Fish not of the same genus, can usually not interbreed. I say "usually" not because I believe I've read of rainbowfish of the same family breeding across genus, but I'm not 100% sure there (Melanotaenia x Glossolepis).

Listen to Roan art.
Blargh, not infallible :)

Piqued my interest, this platy x molly post, so I asked on my RML to confirm what I had said above:

Many genus of rainbowfish can interbreed, most produce fertile offspring, some do not.

Some genus of the Silversides and Sailfin Silversides and Rainbowfish have been "said" to breed, but it hasn't been proven in any controlled studies.

The fish families are such a bloody mess! Argh.
