breeding ghost shrimp

I'm not too sure about raising shrimp, but I have heard that the only filter that won't kill the baby shrimp is a sponge filter.

I had a few ghost shrimp for a while, the females were always carrying eggs, don't know exactly what happened, slowly they all just dissapeared  You might wanna try looking around this website www.petshrimp.com there is some excellent info there. Good luck!!!

You will need a brackish tank for ghost shrimp. Although they can live in freshwater, they won't breed in it.

But if you really want to breed shrimp, I'd try the cherry or amano shrimp. They are at the top of my list for future projects.

There are multiple species sold as Ghost shrimp. Some are true FW but withstand BW well, others are true BW species. They look very much alike. The only way that I can tell them apart is that the FW berried females carry many fewer but significantly larger eggs, while the BW species carry more but quite small eggs. The FW species do breed easily in FW. Heavy planting (I use Val and Java Moss) and isoloation of berried female is a big help in fry survival. For me I get more offspring surviving if I remove the female after she drops the babies. See:

Cherry shrimp are easy. Amano shrimp are not.
