I'm attempting to do a black out on my 29g because it has a nice green water from algae bloom.
Here's the question.. does the tank have to be completelly covered w/o any lighting peeking through?
I couldn't find something big enough to cover the tank completelly.

Yes it does and I would suggest something that will do a better job of blacking it out, like a blanket. Trash bags will let some light through.
It is best to do them in conjunction with two large water changes.

use blankets/big towels. daily 50% water change. my 125g took 6 days to finally get rid of the green water

Okay... the real quesiton is "is it ok to let any light peek through?"
I have some small areas where light can somewhat shine through from under the blanket.
I can figure something out to cover those area.
I'm a tad lazy (sick right now) don't want to be making a mess right now so I was hoping that I could get away with it
