Hiya, over the weekend I scrubbed and cleaned every thing to a shine in preparation of my 20 gallon tank. Considering setting up of either a dwarf ciclid only tank or having a Amazon basin commuinity tank if there such thing!
I have in the past had a true pair of Kribs in a 24'x12'x12 community tank..due to me moving house I lost my first batch of fry due to waking up that morning to see a handfull of frys being chaproned by two very protective parents, basically bulling every thing that was in their way, even the plec that was at least 2 sizes bigger that the adults hide in its shelter .After catching and bagging all the other tenants I spent what seemed like ages to catch the frys. My attempt was hopeless and only managed to catch 3. which die before re-joining them with their parents. Due to Kribs behaivour in the 2' tank in a week I invested in a 4' tank,my reasoning more room the Kribs would be a bit civil to the others no chance, more room more domain for them to control. I ended up resorting to placing a divider and only removed when the fry were at a size that were too big to be eaten and the parents were less agressive to the others. to inform you the pair breed worse than rabbits in my origional 2' tank I had already introduced new tenants so I had to invest in another 2' tank used just as a nursery for the juvernille Kribs.
This now leads me back to my ? above if I go for a dwarf cichlid only tank concidering that I get pairs that will eventually breed how many can be kept without contstant wars and if I aim for the Amazon community set up again what fish can I keep, and to what stock level. By the way I would still like to keep at least one pair of dwarf cichids as I am facinated at their breeding behaviour
