baby fish...

We have a five gallon fish tank with 4 guppies. We were looking in it this morning and there are 3 little baby fish that came out of no where. Were are these baby fish coming from we dont want 90 million fish.....help



also all the fish are acting weird they all swimming around at the top of the water with their moulths open...

:eek: Well, hate to say it but, if you didn't want a bunch o' fish you shouldn't have gotten guppies!

You said 4, how many females? They sometimes come from the store pregnant and, I believe, can store sperm for several spawnings.

Ummmm, thats probably not what you wanted to hear.

I don't know of any way to stop them, but you might be able to sell the babies. That would involve getting another bigger tank tho.

Or, you could let nature take its course. The adults will eat the babies.

That's probably not what you wanted to hear, either.

I use to buy guppies a feeder fish. When I got the last batch, it happened I had a empty 20 gl. tank and a spare filter, so I decided to give them a filtered home. Before, in an unfilterred tank, I would find dead guppies quickly. In this tank they are going terrific, and I've seen about a hundred baby guppies been born there. I take the bigger ones as meals while the babies are growing. Nice deal.
