Well I have had two 10 gallon planted tanks and both had to be taken down due to moving. I'm in my new apt, and looking to setup a new easy, maintainence free tank. I've decided to get one green spotted puffer and put in the 10 gallon tank. After it grows to about 3-4 inches I will move it to a bigger tank, around 20-30. Right now I have a Penguin mini, black sand, three fake plants. I plan on adding live plants in time to slowly replace the fake plants. For rocks? Can u add limestone? Or will this buffer the water at a high PH?

Also how many tablespoons of salt per gallon do I add?

I plan on keeping one green spotted puffer, and maybe add a bumblebee goby or two at a later time.

Does anybody have a website with a setup?

"Maintenece free" tank? No such thing. Especially with a puffer. They are very messy eaters. In addition to weekly water changes & gravel cleaning (even under & around landscaping), you may need to pick out uneaten food after every feeding. These tanks definately need to be fishless cycled, as you can not cycle with a puffer. You need to get a hydrometer & find out what specific gravity the puffer you're buying is being kept at in the store. Most lfs leep them in FW. Start out by adding 1tbsp/gal of marine salt to your tank, & add 2/gal the next week, increasing the percentage every week, until you have a SG of about 1.005-8. As they grow, you are going to want to increase it even more, as they prefer high brackish to SW as adults. Mine are 5" & live in a SG of 1.016-19. I would move it to a larger tank at about 2-3".

Well I didn't tthink it wwas suppose tto be that muchh salinitty. Man I mighth as well go nano reef, but then I don't want to have to go to lfs to always get water. So I guess I will stick withth puffer.

I didn't mean maintainence free totally. I do realize frequent water changes and siphoning is needed.

Nano reef, or puffers, huh...I think puffers are much more rewarding! As far as plants, the only ones that will be sucessfull in BW are java fern & moss.

yea I've decided to stick withth puffers, I don't want to hhave to buy lighting, skimmer, and always go to lfs to get RO water. As for stuff in the tank, I have black sand, and three fake plants, which I plan to exchange for java fern later on, as for rocks, what do you prefer? will that holy limestone work? Anybody hahve pictures of tthere setups?
