How many of you use hot water out of the tap for water changes?

I have always "aged" my water in buckets for a week before doing water changes. Before I use it, I usually take some of the water out and heat it up in a pot on the stove and re-add it to the buckets to get the temp up to the tank temp.

How many of you don't age your water, dechlor it right from the tap (using both hot and cold to get the temp adjusted to your tank), then do the change? Also, does using the water from your hot water heater add things to your change water that wouldn't be beneficial to your fish, or is it OK to use hot water from the tap?

I know that some of you use heaters in the buckets to up the temp before a water change, but I don't have an extra heater.

Just curious,

Michele

Mine comes stright out of the tap and into the tank w/ no problems I also make sure it is about as warm as the tank

we don't age our water, we do the tap thing. we try to get the water temp as close to our tank temp as possible. I dont know if this is the wrong way, or the right way but weve had our tanks for awhile and ive never lost a fish. well i did lose a baby lab, but that was because my husband accidently dropped it in the other side of the breeder tank with my perlmutts n my flowerhorn and my snowflake calvin... they thought it was dinner time. I guess if it works for you go for it.

I do water changes right from the tap with my Python system. I just hold a thermometer under the water to adjust it to exactly the same temp as the tanks.

I re-fill right from the tap, and I use a combo of hot/cold to bring it up to 80F.

When I do a water change, it's 90 gallons.

I split the dose of Prime, adding half at the start and the other half at the end.

I do it straight from the tap through the python.

No room for buckets of water to age, and my cats would drink all the water if i leave 'em out.

Me, too... except I don't have a python yet so it goes from the tap into a bucket, I dose the bucket with prime, do my w/c, then add the new water. That is how my LFS told me to do it with my first tank and now I do it that way with all 3, seems to work for me! I should really think about the python for my bigger tanks, though... hmm...

Question regarding the "python"

Not familiar with it. How does it work? You mean you just hook it up to the sink like a hose, and fill up the tank? or does it add water and take water out of the tank at the same time?

Also, Roan, when you say that you "dose the tank", do you mean that you put the dechlor into the tank before the water change, and then add the water from the tap without removing chlorine, etc. The dechlor takes care of the impure water once it's in the tank, and has no ill effects with all the nastiness while it's going in?

The Python is a 2 in 1 system. First you attach to your tap, and leaving the hose open you vacuum and siphon your tank. After that you you turn the water an your tap, adjust the temp. and viola start filling your tank. You can add your chemical while filling the tank without harming any fish. I just bought one, and it makes 20 G water change alot easier. At first it does seem tricky to use but by the 3rd time your liking it. I highly recomend getting one if you have a large tank.
