View Full Version : Afraid of Overfeeding???
Okay I am not sure how much I should be feeding my tank. The clowns won't eat anything except mysis or brine shrimp, formula one frozen food....I have tried flake and pellet but they spit it out. I have been feeding 1/2 cube of frozen in the morning and again at night but I am afraid of overfeeding. The tang eats and so does the cardinal but I haven't seen the gobie eat anything but sand. Should I add coepods for the gobie as my tank hasn't been up that long? and how often should I feed the others? I would like to get them eating some flake food with supplemental mysis every other day???? but I haven't found one they will eat yet. None look like they are starving and the crabs and snails take care of any leftovers..........

I feed my tank about that much, twice a day. Dry in the morning, frozen at night. I have a few more fish than you do, and a lot of corals that need feeding as well. You will probably be fine, but keep an eye out for traces of cyano or NO3 creeping up.
I expect that the clowns will become less picky as their mouths grow. Mine would only eat tiny pieces of frozen at first, or baby brine shrimp, but got interested in other foods as they got bigger.
Dunno about the goby. Bump.

The clowns are two very different sizes....one small juvenile about 1.5 inches long and an adult female that is about 2.5 to 3.00 inches long. The small one eats less just mysis that is mashed up a bit...the bigger one will actually glom on to the baster with her mouth to get food out.......she can't be that hungry but maybe just a pig. The tang eats like crazy but won't touch lettuce or dried seaweed yet.....all that eats the seaweed are the snails. I think I will try attaching it to a rock........

You might try Nori with the Tang. I take a piece once each day, fold it over and over and attach it to a rock with a rubber band. He violently attacks it until it's gone - usually a couple hours. BTW, I was telling the guy at my LFS about the Tang not eating my lettuce and he said, "You don't feed a terrestrial plant to an ocean animal". Made sense to me - the Nori really works.
I've tried nori on a clip and nothing will go near it but the snails who devour it like it was candy. I will try attaching it to a rock and maybe the tang will see it in a more natural way and eat it. Thanks!

My kole tang will nibble at the nori, but the foxface just slurps it down. Probably an individual thing. The tang seems to like the algae on the rocks and glass better.
With the Sand Sifter Goby, there are some that eat and some that don't, hopefully you can get it under control, but i had to feed my yellow head loads and kept switching the food around to see what he likes, he did get quite skinny and now i have to feed 3 times a day to get him back in shape, they are tough to keep.
