I'm looking around on Big Al's; I'm looking at substrate now. I know from regular gardening that peat is acidic, this would probably help naturally correct alkaline water, how exactly do you use peat in this situation? I also thought about getting some driftwood, but don't like my tank to look like tea. also which of these gravels is best? Carib Sea Flora Max, Seachem Flourite or others...are they basically the same? Any good fish store will have it?
If I get a Co2 thing do I need a bubble counter? That formula for lights again 2-3watts/gallon? is that right? I know it's posted somewhere but just want to make sure. ;)

Ya'll have been more than helpful, and I really appreciate it. I don't think this is hard as I thought.

Thanx again,

you have to soak driftwood. boiling is faster to get the tannins out, but sometimes its hard to get a pot big enough. i just put mine in and did frequent water changes to remove tannins from the tank, and kept a close eye on pH, since tannins can lower pH as well.

as for peat, you just put it in the filter and the water will run through it.
