So I ordered a maxijet1200 powerhead in place of the rio that came with my "used bakpak" skimmer....

And now I am discovering that, as far as I can tell, I do not own a piece that looks like or functions like the "venturi adaptor" mentioned in the instructions to the bakpak which I found on the cpr aquatics page.

It's also a bit confusing because I guess the instructions for the maxijet assembly are for undergravel filter use and not applicable for protein skimmers.

What am I supposed to do?

Okay...
then how the hell do I assemble it? Because when I go on the cpr aquatics website it shows the assembly of a maxijet powerhead in context of bakpak skimmer use and it has a venturi adapter.
what?

I have the air control valve, AC adapter, Air line... but not the "venturi adapter" mentioned there ^

Ok, I am NO expert nor do I have a bakpak, but i ASSUME that you just put the outflow tube from the maxi-jet into the inflow part of the Bakpak. Yu should be good to go then. I know that is how it works with my Remora. Good Luck

Yeah but what about the "inflow" part of the maxijet? How do I get air mixing in?

If I just do that then I won't get any bubbles, just water circulating through the skimmer.

that's how I have my tank running too..... I don't have the bubbles, right... just the water circulating and the other powerheads flowing as well... If memory serves me right, it was suggested to me that the air hose was not really needed for a SW tank.

I thought a skimmer needed to "froth" to collect waste?

Some sort of turbulence is required for a protien skimmer to work. This is different then how the powerheads run for general circulation or for a UGF. The venturi should have been included in the packaging of the skimmer.

I honestly don't know. With the rio, the venturi setup was obvious. Ameka Aquatics is the parts supplier for CPR, you might call them at 1-888-764-6491. Their web site is down at the moment, unfortunately.

It came with a rio, which had some sort of like.... it didn't need an adapter. All the pieces fit tubing, I think? There were little pieces branching off the intake area( I guess?), and one of them hooked up to the output tube and one went above water or something. The one which went above water had a grey mushroom looking attachment thing on the end which wasn't adjustable or whatever.

I posted about it on the cpraquatics forum and referred me to this, which I got off another seller because I do not have a credit card and seller #2 accepted paypal (I use my dad's account, whee).

Also, it came with a "venturi", that is, "venturi flow deflector" and a "venturi set" which includes an air control valve, ac adapter, air tube, and venturi plug.... which plug into the "venturi flow deflector". All of which go into the output. So I guess those arent' the "venturi adapter" I am looking for.
