I would like to get a pair of cichlids for my 29 gallon community tank. I was thinking of a peaceful cichlid. The current inhabitants are: 5 danios, 4 corys, 3 serpae tetras. The 2 main fish I am looking at are Kribensis and Blue Rams. Which would you recomend? Are they any other kinds that i might be interested in?
-thanks

Im going to go with other and say go with an Apistogramma of some sort... only problem will be the corys but I think that will also be a problem with the blue rams and Im not sure about the kribs. I think Apistos are much prettier though and act a lot cooler IMO than the two choices. If you want something cute very peaceful and a good personality go with keyhole cichlids.

If your 100% set on cories, then go with the rams, or aforementioned keyholes. Kribensis and Apistos are a little more territoriall, and often don't tolerate other bottom dwelers (although this varies between individuals).

moo, I disagree both pairs of rams that I have had did not enjoy the company of cories... even when I had them in a 75g they still chased corys/clown loaches away at any given point in time

I have german rams and bolivian rams with my cory's. The bolivians have no problem with the cory's. They have never chased them, bit them, anything. The germans are the same way, although when they where spawning they would chase the cory's away. The cory's didn't seem to care they would just swim to another part of the tank. I think my cory's wouldn't care if they lived on land, they are the easiest going fish in my tank.

I stand corrected on the rams. I guess the previous posts just go to show how variable the temperament of different dwarf cichlids can be, even within species.

I have a pair of blue rams in one of my community tanks with three corys, three yoyo loaches, a few rainbows, a load of guppies and a couple bristlenose catfish. The rams don't seem to bother anyone. They're nice fish and have quite ammusing personalities (seeing them when they're having a disagreement and headbutting each other is often good for a laugh).

I have a pair of Czech bred Blue Rams in with 9 Cory adolfoi and they get on great together. Occasionally they school together which is quite amusing. When the Rams spawned the Corys were chased from the eggs but not overly aggressively.

Rams sure are a stunning fish, hard to beat for their good looks and peaceful , inquisitive nature. Will take food from your hand and always sticking their noses in when planting or gravel cleaning.

The drawback is that they are a little finicky about clean water conditions. They don’t like sudden changes and small-but-often water changes are preferred to large ones. If introducing them to your tank do it slowly, adding a little water to their bag at a time over a few hours so as not to stress them.

Fab fish that get my vote!
