Hello...i just recently got a 30gal hex and it leaks so i was going to reseal it...but the thing is i have never done this before...and if i take all the old silicone off won't the tank fall apart...if it does how would i go about puting it back together for it being a hex...won't it be hard to put a good seal on it...any advice would help...thanks...

I resealed a tank before, only once.I removed the old silicone w\ a razor blade(tank didnt fall apart) used masking tape to make clean edges about a 1\4" from seam.worked great.
hope this helps alittle.

I'd never thought about it falling apart until your post - but it didn't. I think the side edges are originally first cemented together or something and the frame held the top and bottom. I was dreading working on it, but the razor blade holder (thread link follows) really helped. I also thought it would take forever but I finished taking off the old silicone in under 1/2 hour. Of course, a 10 gallon isn't as bad as a 30 hex. But this was the first time I attempted something like this, too.

I just finished resiliconing my 10 gallon as per partsrep's post on this thread http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68762 with a slight modification. I didn't wait before I took off the masking tape, so that when the silicone was still wet I could go over the edges again to get them more 'feathered' down to nothing. I used my finger instead of a popsicle stick.

Anyhow, good luck on your project. I guess the real test will be in a few days if mine actually holds water!
