Ok my 29 gallon brackish water tank has just cycled. it has a GSP in it, water parameters: ammonia 0ppm, Nitrite 0ppm, nitrate <10ppm, ph 8.2, GH way up, off the chart, KH 286ppm, temp 77, SG 1.010. I noticed last night that the back of the glass looked a little clowdy, but clear, was gone all morning and just now got back and this rust looking substance all over back of glass, i've also noticed it on the decorations in the tank. I'm really worried about this, because if it's something bad i need to know what to do, also i do 50% water changes at least twice a week. here is a pic
rusty looking stuff on tank glass

Brown algae. Common in newer setups. You can wipe it off easily. Only concern would be if it comes up in large, velvety sheets that have a very strong odor when removed from the tank--if that's the case, it could be a blue-green algae. Either way, not a threat to the animals, just an ugly annoyance. Brown algae will likely wear out the available silica and fade away, while BGA will require strict removal and cleanup, along with serious nutrient control.

Hey! Your tank looks like mine! It's brown ;)

Nada to worry about. You often get that in any new tank.

I'm doing a water change tomorrow and am going to lightly rub off the decorations (which are the worst) with my fingers in old tank water. Also using a scraper on the walls before I start the change so that the syphon will suck up the brown with the water.

Your tap water must have a low phosphate content. Be careful where you place your tanks. They shouldn't be within a few yards of a window because sun rays just speed up algae growth.

that would be a really good thing since i'm starting to set up a 90G reef tank right????
