Earlier tonight, i walked in on this:

I don't know if the snail was hitching a ride or violating my other snail. This went on for a good ten minutes(no idea how long they were like that before i walked in). Near the end, the bottom snail looked like it was trying to shake the other one off. It was hard to see if there was anything connected between the two but the orange snail finally dismounted and let go. So, were they doing it? If so, when, where, and how long before i see eggs?

no idea. My girlfriend bought them from petco. I think it was labeled mystery snail. I really know nothing about them.

yup, looks like it to me. here's a good site i found. towards the bottom it talks about mating. different species of snails sometimes mount each other, but it will not result in eggs, but if yours are the same species, it may take months to see eggs, as the female can hold onto sperm for a long time before finally deciding to lay eggs.

Definantly a good site. Lots of information about breeding and also about identifing your snails. I have to second that you might not see eggs for awhile. My snails (same species) mate often but the female hasn't laid any eggs yet. Also, they will lay the eggs above the water line so it is my understanding that if they dont have anywhere to lay the eggs they wont.

Thanks for that link. I guess they were doing it, but they do look pretty different(color and marking wise)so i doubt i'll ever see eggs. Oh well.

Absolutely, they are getting it on. Wait a while and check the tank for egg packs above the water line. Sadly once they start you will have egg packs everywhere so if you are not prepared for a 50 new tank members remove the egg pack. (You can end up with a few hundred if nobody eats the babys)
That website is AWESOME BTW, first place I found when I started with snails.
