Hi all, I'm looking into which cichlids to get for my tank (300L) and was wondering how i work out the male - female ratios ? Below is a list of possibles (trying to keep them small and fairly peacefull) Could you recommend how many of each sex to keep of the following(and which can be kept alone i.e. 1 male only)? I know the rams need to be in pairs, and think the redbrest and butterfly also need to be in pairs, not too sure on the rest :

Redbreast Acara - Laetacara Dorsiger
African Butterfly Cichlid - Anomolachromis Thomasi
German Ram - Microgeophagus Ramirezi
Crested Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma Cacatuoides Sunburst
Egyptian Mouthbrooder - Pseudocrenilabrus Multicolor
Blue-Eye Cichlid - Cich. Spilurum
Flag Cichlid - Laetacara curviceps

Thanks in advance

heya mate.....;)

Redbreast Acara -- pairs...

African Butterfly Cichlid - definately pairs...(i have 3 pair, 2 breeding.....)

German Ram - pairs also...

Apistogramma Cacatuoides Sunburst
either all males or 1-3 ratio m-f

Egyptian Mouthbrooder - Pseudocrenilabrus Multicolor
thers i beleive need a ratio of 1 males to 2\3 females again, maybe too aggressive.......

Blue-Eye Cichlid - Cich. Spilurum (maybe too large\agg for the setup youre going for....)

Flag Cichlid - (pairs)

hth........
:D

Thanks for the replys :)

ok, so hows this for a final choice ? :

Blue-Eye Cichlid - Cichlasoma spilurum – x2 M + F
African Butterfly Cichlid - Anomolachromis Thomasi - x2 M+F
Redbreast Acara - Laetacara Dorsigera – x4 2M + 2F
Flag Cichlid - Laetacara curviceps – x3 1M + 2F ?
Crested Dwarf Cichlid - Apistogramma Cacatuoides Sunburst - x3 1M + 2F
Apistogramma Agassizi x1 M
Angelfish x2 (or x3?)

dave;

id drop the blue eye, the angels, and the single agazzizi;

you wont have enough room i dont think if territories get established,

so 4 pairs sound pretty good for your size tank (4ft, right:?)

:D
