First, a bit of background info:
I've had my ornate bichir (I know how big he will grow) for about a week. He is currently in my 55 gallon with 6 zebra danios and a German Blue Ram, who will be moving as son as the bichir grows some more. He is happily eating shrimp pellets.
Well, anyone who has ever kept zebras know they like food. A lot. When I give the bichir his pellet, they will often attempt to steal bites of it, or in the case tonight, the entire thing. The bichir, who guards his food like it was his life, takes snaps at them if they get too close. Today, when a zebra got to close, it GRABBED IT BY THE HEAD and swung it around. Its only about 2.5 inches, but it had the head in its mouth and was holding on like crazy. The zebra got free, and looks OK.
It was the most amazing thing I've seen in my fishkeeping career.
