My friend has some ghost shrimp in her tank and she was telling me how clean they keep the tank. I was thinking about getting some, but am afraid that my fish will eat them. I have 1 pleco, 1 lace catfish, 2 pictus catfish, 2 kissing fish, 2 three-spot gourmanis, 1 dwarf gourmani, and four mixed fruit tetras. I am not going to get the shrimp right away because I will be getting an 80 gallon tank soon. Are shrimp a good addition?

your gouramis would probably eat them, possibly the catfish too.

If the shrimp are cheap, get them anyway. You'll find out pretty quick whether your fish are going to eat them or not. If they do, the fish will benefit from the live food; if they don't, the shrimp will make great scavangers.

I've got ghost shrimp at the moment in the same tank as dwarf gouramis and they don't seem to mind. I asked for the larger shrimp in the tank at the shop just in case and i always feed my fish before adding the shrimp to the tank once i get them home.

here their either 33 cents or 50 cents a piece depending on where you go. they are pretty fast and resourcefull. i still have some living in my Green Spotted Puffer tank, they just know not to come out until the GSP is sleeping.

the ghost shrimp here are around $.26. I have some shells in my tank right now. I am afraid that they will crawl inside of them and when I go to clean the tank that they will be in the shells and die. Should I remove the shells if I do get these ghost shrimp?
