A few questions on molly reproduction...

Can the mother give birth again a few hours after she gave birth to the other babies?

How do I care for the fry?

here's what i do and it has worked very well for me:

Get a hang on breeder net, about 5 bucks at your LFS or wal-mart, it's just a square tiny net that hangs on your tank that you scoop up the fry and put them in there, to keep them for being eaten. make sure it's not directly in front of the filter, so that their not getting blown around too much, but make sure it's not in a dead spot either, you want fresh water going over them so that the overfeeding that you do doesn't create an ammonia bloom, either. I take reg. flake food and put it in a ziplock bag and crunch it into a powder with my fingers, they do eat alot so make sure to put plenty in there. don't keep them over too hot of lights either, since they are in a breeder net, they can't swim away from the heat. i feed mine 4-5 times a day, my mollies were born on Superbowl Sunday and they are already back swimming with the "big dogs" and no one messes with them. when you feed them in the breeder net, just take a pinch and drop it in so that it covers the whole top area, they will quickly gooble it up and just make sure not to dump so much in there that it's polluting the area but enough for them to all eat well. like i said, 4 or 5 times a day. Good luck. just so you know what i have, 2 mollies, 1 male / 1 female 2 platys 1 male / 1 female. we DO NOT HAVE A SHORTAGE OF FRY IN THIS HOUSE. LOL

My mollies were born earlier today, and, becuase the store where I get my fish stuff from was closed, I put them in a plastic ocntainer with the same water from the tank. I floated the plastic container in the water, propped up against the filter and the back wall of the tank. It doesn't shift at all. But I was thinking of seperating a part of the tank of for them, until a samller tank of mine is cylced and I brought a filter and heater to go in it. So, can I section a part off by cutting some plastic down to size and placing it where I want it to go?

well then your going to have a dead spot to where the water is not moving and circulating. and if it's blocking the tanks tightly no o2, no filtration - no heating, no more fish. :(

if your going to seperate it, i would suggest drilling lots of really tiny holes in the plastic? to let the water circulate,

oh yeh- I didn't think about that. But I think, to save me the effort, i will just buy a breeder net. Thanks anyway!
