Last time she was alone in a 30 gal with a pelco. Recently moved her into a 55. Tank mates 6" rt shark, a pair of kribs, 2 yo-yos, a stripped rubber pelco, a common pelco. Moved her into this tank about 2 weeks ago, shark chases her quite a bit when the lights are on but it almost seems like they play when the lights are out. I saw her rearranging gravel this afternoon just noticed now that she has a mouth full of eggs. she swam right up to the sharks cave just a bit ago like she is trying to get him to chase her, something she does quite often.
Does anyone have any idea why she keeps having eggs when there are no males? I would really like to get one but I bought her at walmart, don't usually buy fish there but my lfs has never had these so I gave in a bought one. Since then all the others they had have slowly starved to death. I think they have one left but it's belly is so sunken it's sad. Don't know if it's a male or female. I thought the one I bought was a male when I bought it. but then it lost most of it's color and eventually laid eggs.
My lfs is really good about trading fish in but for some reason they don't like to order anything other than their regular stock. Nearest fish store other than that is 60 miles away and I don't get there very often, but might have to make a trip soon. Do you think if I can get one should I just add one male or should I get another female and a male. Obviously the one I have has no problem laying eggs. It would be super cool to have them actually turn into fish. my lfs would probably take them off my hands for store credit Anyway sorry for the long winded post and does anyone have any insight or experience with female haps having eggs with no males around? Thanks inadvance niner
