I recently purchased a pair of 6-7 inch Peacock Eels....Does anyone know of ANY fish i can put with them...I have a 55gal with a breeding pair of jack Dempseys,(plus the Fry), A 30 gal community tank with guppies, danios, daces, corys, white clouds, and plecos. A 20 Gal african cichlid tank and two 10 gals...1 with a betta and 2 snails, the other a temporary home for the Eels...Can they go in ANY of my tanks?? who do i need to move and where to???I NEED HELP!!!!! any advice is VERY welcome, and ALL opinions are considered!!!!!

THANX.....Bronzz

Well the LFS told me all they knew about them when i got them, and they seemed to cover all the usual bases, but when i got home and did a little MORE reserch, i found that the LFS apparently didnt know his A@@ from a hole in the ground!!! Unfortunately they have a "not dead, no return" policy at the LFS.....

Thanx.......Bronzz

P.S.....Just becouse this is my first post here, is in no way indicative that i am a novice aquarist.....in fact i have been a fish keeper for about 20 yrs now......I KNOW to find things out about fish, and what things TO find out before you buy!!!

They won't really fit with any of your tanks. The 55 would be the best option, but they will take some of the fry, and the dempsey's will likely go after them, making them stressed and more prone to hiding constantly. Sorry. The 30 would be the next best--if they are small, the fish will be safe for now, but the smaller ones will start disappearing as the eels mature, and the tank will be overstocked.

Well, you have a couple of choices....kill em and take them back to LFS since they only take them if they are dead lol j/k, or you could do more research to find out good tankmates and rearrange your tanks, or if you live in an area with more than one LFS....maybe another will trade you for new fish. I know that Petsmart here does that. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Bronzzhorse,
I figured as such by reading your message, thus the winky smilie ;)

Bah, I don't know anyone here who can't say they never bought a fish without research first even when they *do* know better. Including myself.

Anyhow, looks like your "humane" choices are to either buy another tank for them, try another store that might trade them in, or maybe see if someone local to you wants them. How about putting an ad in the classifieds section here?

Well i CANT house all the JD fry so if some of them get taken thats fine....meanwhile ive tried bloodworms, earthworms and mealworms, along with dry baby shrimp......from what i can see they arent eating ANYTHING.....whats wrong with these guys????
