I was considering maybe getting a desktop tank to hold a betta. would a 5 gallon corner eclipse be enough for it? can I use pre-exsisting tank water from my other tank thats already cycled or do I need to cycle a tank all over again? what other fish/inverts can I put with a betta?

5 gallon is a good betta tank yopu could anve an apple sanial or shrimp in there with him the old tank water does not hav ethe beneficial bacteria in it so it won't cycle your tank however temporaritly adding some decour form the established tank will speed up the process.

water alone won't cycle it, put in some gravel or filter media from the old tank.

I have ghost shrimp in with my female betta. She eats them after awhile. So, I think I will get a snail, also. Hopefully she won't eat that!

Kyle is right, decor will help more than water. The water couldn't hurt, but gravel or filter media from the established tank would be better.

i had an apple snail in with my gourami and glowlight tetras and the fish pestered the snail until he shut up in his shell and starved to death, then the fish ate him....

some bettas can live with a snail, others can't...
