Rainbow fish question

Roan I figure youll probably no the answer to this if not someone might. What is the common name for what is considered the original rainbow fish? I think it was called a sunfish? I know they are muti colored when they muture and thats why they where called rainbow fish origanly. I would really like to find one of these but i dont have a common name. Im not even sure if they are in the aquarium trade anymore as ive never seen one at any lfs that looks like them but im not sure what juvies look like.
 
It's believed that the "original" rainbow that the family was named for was Melanotaenia duboulayi, or the Crimson-Spotted Rainbowfish. They're easy to pick out because both males and females *all* have a red spot on each gill.

I have a school of them and they are the only Australian rainbowfish that I have. The rest of mine are either from Papua New Guinea or Irian Jaya.
