I just bought a new filter for a 10 gallon i have. The filter is a Marineland Penguin Bio-Wheel 100. After I installed it, It immediately made a loud grinding/whirling noise. I thought that maybe it needed to "break-in" a little bit, but after a few hours, it still persisted. It sounds like the Bio-wheel is spinning really fast, but if i stop it, the noise continues. Is it a piece of carbon stuck in the motor? Any advice? Has anyone else experienced this?

when i have had problems with my filters i just take them apart. Most filters are VERY servicable. Take a look at it. MOST filters and be taken apart with no tools. If you need a tool, just leave it. you could bring it back and get a replacement. I have taken apart filters that dont work, giveing them a clean and like magic they start working

Hope this helps.

Hey, i dont know how old this is. I just got a new penguin and its motor was extremely loud and grinding when I first plugged it. I just unplugged and plugged back it, worked fine. It does this every now and then.
