The husband just left for a 3 day business trip to some air force base in South Carolina.....ugh (shudder).
I get to spend 3 days covered in fish poop water, without anyone complaining that I smell like fish poop water :D

1.180g - break down the sump, clean all hoses, DONOT rinse bio balls, remove and scrub all rocks and drift wood, and re-aquascape with out drowning
2.10g - only minor cleaning here, break down the filter and check the impeller
3. 5g - put Mr. Montoya in a soup pot :idea2: , empty and strip the 5g hex, and buff out all the little scratches
4. Decide where to put the 35g hex and 55g that are in the garage. Get them up and running before the boss gets home. If they are full of water, he can't make me move them! HA!

Sounds like an exciting and hygenic way to spend the next 3 days

What I like to do with my 10 gallons occasionally is drain 1/3 of the water out into my fish bucket and transfer the fish into that bucket. Attach the filter and heater to the bucket. Then put the gravel into a collander and rinse it well in old tank water to remove any fish poop ... without harming any biofiltration. After that, I take the tank down and fill it up with tapwater with bleach (4 cups of bleach in the 10 gallon tank). I soak the plastic decorations in the bleachwater for 2 hours or so. Drain it and rinse it really well. Then re-fill it still in the bathtub using the shower and double dose the dechlorinator. Let is sit for 20 minutes and drain it again. Then I re-assemble the tank and put the gravel back and fill it up 2/3rds with dechlorinated tapwater (heated to the correct temperature). Then I transfer the remaining 1/3 of the old tankwater back, re-attach the filters and put the fish back in. The tank looks like a brand new mirror. Shiny and new. I do this maybe once or twice a year only with the small 10 gallons (the plastic plant only ones). My live plant and larger tanks don't get this special treatment.

ooh! how exciting! i wish i could set that many tanks up!

i know just what you mean- once it's full it stays- i got a 7 gallon set up for the new betta the other day just in time, before my exasperated room mate got home and could disagree- he he.

it's funny she's so opposed to my tanks b/c she's afraid they'll make messes(or i will when fiddling with them as she calls it) but she loves to watch them and she already likes tabi-chan(new betta)

I'm not sure whats going in the 35 and 55. I've been toying with the idea of a vivarium in the 35g hex.

Sounds great...my roommate has just learned to deal with it...i have 5 tanks in half of a dorm room, along with a bed and my computer....24g nano, 10g krib tank, 5.5g killifish tank, and 2: 2.5g betta tanks...he just learned to not fuss about it...and i try not to make too much of a mess. Good Luck and have fun cleaning all your tanks

1 down, 2 to go! Is there anything more satisfying than a spic and span tank?
