I am looking for advice on Orange Chromides. I like the way they look, but I have been unsuccessful at finding any at any of my lfs. I've only been able to find pictures in aquarium books. If someone could help me out with pics of their orange chromide or any helpful suggestions that would be great! Anything else you can tell me about them would be wonderful. Thanks in advance. :D

I've seen them "in the fin" only once. They were very beautiful. If I remember corectly, they are one of the only "Asian" cichlids. They are brackish water fish (not sure if this is a requirement). They are not overly aggressive (can be kept in community tanks if special consideration is given to thier requirements). they only get about 4-5 inches long. That's all I know.
I think you may be overestimating the size a bit, ~3 - 3 1/2" is as big as I have gotten them.
I bred the orage form several years ago in very light BW, ~1.003. But I have come to think that the standard form is more attractive as an adult fish. They are less showy, but really good-looking.
They will do fine in hard, alkaline water w/o BW, but I don't know if they will breed there - I never tried. The fry feed on the parents body slime, akin to discus in that, but it is not as important for these fish.
The other species, the green chromide, is much larger. There seems to be a third species, but I have never seen it in the trade.

I last had them about 15 years ago. Nice little fish. Search for Etroplus maculatus as there are 10,000 results on Google.
