So the ammonia has risen and fallen back down to about 0.3ppm. But the nitrite is just sitting on about 1ppm. I thought that as the bacteria chewed through the ammonia, it is supposed to be converted to nitrite which then rises. Any clues?
1 ppm is nothing to sneeze at. Could be that the bacteria converting nitrite to nitrate are getting busy already, or that the peak is still on the way.
