i like the looks of plants in a tank but im scared to get plants since i have oscars. would anyone recommend a plant and this will be for a 55 galoon tank.

Plastic…………………:-)

Ok, Ok, just kidding around, I like keeping Oscars too but I don’t keep them with my planted tank. It is hard to do especially with a breading pair. If you’ve ever seen them nest and completely rearrange the gravel you know what I mean.

I would suggest rooted plants and not stem plants. I have seen a planted Oscar tank, it had exclusively Amazon swords. Thier strong and vigorous root structure discouraged the Oscars from pulling them up. BUT to get that good strong growth from the plants you will need to have lots of good lighting and even CO2. You can add CO2 easily by doing the DIY yeast method. Its fun to do, just search around to get the details.

If you don’t have good condition to grow the plants strong and FAST your Oscars will defy your authority and tear them up. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

PS
Don’t be scared to experiment and try new things with your fish tank. A few spent dollars and dead plants is worth it if you’re enjoying it.

I have good success with java fern rooted to rocks and anubias.

I recently tied my anubias to a piece of driftwood, but before it survived for almost 2 years planted in the substrate in a protected area away from my Oscar's favorite lurking spots.

also just wanted to point out that a 55g is barely adequate for a single oscar with no other tank mates. i noticed you said "OscarS" in the plural........ for two oscars you'd need at least 100g
