I have heard people say that its not a good idea to use plastic check valves on DIY CO2 because the CO2 will degrade them over time. Does anyone know how long they will last, or where one could find brass ones?

I've been going a few months now w/ a generic plastic check valve. No noticeable degradation in the housing, and it still functions properly when I disconnect the fermentation bottle for a swapout.

Just my $.02.

I figured that if it infact does, it would take a while. Thanks for the input.

I take it your in the Air force. (Based on the picture and the fact that I have only seen people in the military use v/r)

raymond h2002 had this link on another thread:

And you're right on the USAF. Enjoying Oklahoma, but we could use some rain.

I'm going to switch from DIY CO2 to a 10-lb. bottled system pretty soon. It's time to do it when you get tempted to drink the ethanol-laden swill each time you swap out fermentation bottles.

BTW, might you be a Physics teacher or professor?

I was in the navy for 4 years on active duty, weekend warrior now. I am a physics student. GI bill is awsome :thm: I'm in Washingon State, wish I could send you some rain, we get more than enough.

Just a little topic shift:

USN...awesome! Some days I wish we'd do things the way the Navy did it (and I've heard the same from Naval troops when they reference the USAF).

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

For the most part the Navy has its bases in nice places...most port cities are pretty desireable places. I've lived in a few arid places while serving...still, it's all been good!

Thank you for your service. 2 years, 4 years, or 20 years...it's all honorable.
