One of my angeles has a wound on its body right where the side fin is. It looks like a scab with some white dots on it. I added salt, put in some "quick cure" and raised the temp by 2 degrees. Im also doing daily 50% water changes to bring the nitrate down. Am I doing the right thing? Is there anything else I can do?

Oh by the way, the fish is about 2 - 2.5 inches in diameter. If it matters.

sounds like you're doing everything perfectly i'd say keep it up until it heals plus a day or 2 more if it starts to look infected with serious fungus or bacterial inflamation do some reseach and treat him in a quarantine tank

your quick response with all the right things should prevent anything like that from happening

Ok, i have been doing waterchanges, the temp is at 82, i dont plan on raising it anymore (should I?) and I add salt and "quick cure" with each water change. The fish is not really showing any signs of healing. Its acting fine behavior wise, but there is still a scab looking thing at the pit of his side fin with a couple white dots on it.

white dots, huh?

hmmm....

look at some pictures of different deseases (askjeeves will bring up lots of info) see if it looks fungal, ich, bacterial, etc.

or if you could post a fairly crisp picture that would be helpful for us to tell you what to do

sounds like you're doing the right stuff- i don't know what quick cure is what does it say that it treats? active ingredients?

I dont think its getting any better. I have been doing daily 30% water changes. Adding "quick cure" (quick cure says it treats...Ick, Protozoan Parasites, Mild Fluke outbreaks, Costia, Chilodonell, Trichondina) and salt and the temp is at about 82. Here are some pics of the fish. The outbread is on the base of the right fin...

it kind of looks like little cottons balls, about the size of sugar grain, or a pin head.

not ich you may consider treating for a fungal infection..cotton like substances like that usually appear in an area where there has been an open wound, maybe something like maroxy.

any fin nippers in the tank??
i'm sure there are other meds out too..clean water will definately help

mardel makes very good medications if you can read up a bit on the difference between bacterial and fungal infections (it's not as obvious as it might seem) maracyn and maracyn 2 and Maroxy, they have quite a few for specific problems

you might post another thread - title it: "wound infection fungal or bacterial? please advise"

it will attract the right people who have had expirience differentiating between the 2

i wonder if it isn't hole in the head disease. . i just haven't had much first hand expirience with diseased fish so don't jump to any conclusions until we have a second opinion

Im setting up a quarantine tank for my angel. Its a 10gal, I was going to set it up like my regular aquarium, I have an extra filter with airpumps and all. But I dont have a light for it. Is it ok if the QT doesn't have light?
