Yeah, though it's fake (http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/shark.asp). This (http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/yarmouth.asp) is however true, and IMO even more shocking.

Its sad that this is happening. Especially when you know that sharks are livebearers and only produce one or two offspring at a time.

http://www.sharkfriends.com/sharkfinning.html

Read that for more of this tragic event that is happening. These poor sharks get finned and unable to swim just sink to the bottom where they eventually die. WARNING: This link is not for the faint hearted.

Not all sharks are live bearing, and not all give birth or lay only a few eggs at a time. Some can lay 100's or even 1000's but the end result is the same, only a handful make it to adulthood. Add to that, no one really knows the lifecycle of most shark species either so no one knows what their true population numbers are and they could be decimated or doing just fine.

I wouldn't really count on them being just fine though.

It is incredibly sad what is happening to the shark population. Remember a few years back when taking "shark cartilidge" pills was all the rage as a nutritional supplement. Plus just the damage the movie/book "Jaws" did to how people view sharks. We will eventually hunt and kill them out of existence like so many other species

I don't think all sharks are live bearers. Some lay a leathery egg case, others bear young with a plecenta attached to the mother, others hold eggs and the young hatch inside the mothers, they eat their yolk sack and shell, then she expells them. One species in particular (I think sand tiger...not so sure and too lazy to look it up) their young hatch from their eggs inside the mother who has numerous eggs in each uterus. The oldest/strongest hatchling then eats all the others until the mother is ready to give birth. She has two uterus's which means only two juvenile sharks that she gives birth to each season. It amazes me that they have to fight just to survive long enough to be born.

If it was true, that soldier's life would be in danger. I'm sure he doesn't deserve it.
